Farewell for Now

It is with mixed emotions that I say goodbye to the wonderful students and staff Davis and Grizzell Middle School as I am teaching art at Bailey Elementary School in Dublin this school year.  I will miss teaching middle school but am also excited to teach elementary!

Keep working hard and being kind to others and I know you will do great!  Feel free to email me anytime, I would love to hear from you!  Don't be a stranger and HAVE A GREAT YEAR! Kranstuber_Leah@dublinschools.net

7th Gr. Stuffed Animal Mascots

Students designed and created these cute stuffed animals, or Mascots as we call them, because they are good luck charms!  Students learned how to sew by hand, including the running stitch and oversewing stitch.

Very cute and well done!  Check out the "7th Grade Art" tab to see more adorable stuffed animals

7th Gr. Gridded Drawings

Students worked to apply all of their drawing skills learned in this project.  They learned about photo-realist painter Chuck Close who uses grids to create hyper-realistic artworks. Students took a photograph and gridded it and their drawing paper and copied the photograph square by square.  They did a wonderful job and greatly improved their drawing skills!

Origami City: TAKEN OVER!

Classes worked together in this project.  Period 1 worked together to create an origami city.  First, they brainstormed what they wanted their city to be like and then select students acted as City Planners to lead and "give work" to students in the class.  City Planners were also in charge of quality control of the origami and made sure that only the best pieces were included in the city.  There were also City Designers that set up the city in the display case.
...Little did they know that Period 2 was working all along to create something to take over their city!  Period 2 worked together to brainstorm and select something to take over the city that Period 1 created. They researched different origami instructions, made prototypes, and the class voted on the best models.  They then went into production mode and created many of the objects in multiple sizes.  There were also Take Over Designers that set up the chaos and destruction in the city.
Period 2 at Davis Middle School chose Evil Monkeys and Creepers from Minecraft to take over Period 1's city.
Period 9 at Grizzell Middle School chose Zombies, King Kongs, and Godzillas to take over Period 8's city.

Davis Middle School Display:
Check it out, they made the front page of The Davis Dispatch!

Grizzell Middle School's Display:

This was a fun project and a great way for the students to get to know each other, communicate, and  collaborate.
